James Oliver Carter
James Oliver “Jimmy” Carter was born in 1949 and grew up in Wilmington. A graduate of Wake Forest University (B.A. 1971; J.D., 1974), Jimmy was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1974, and he has been in private practice in Wilmington and southeastern North Carolina for over 50 years.

Oliver is certified as a Specialist in Creditors’ Rights by the American Board of Certification and regularly represents all sorts of creditors in Ch. 7, Ch. 11, and Ch. 13 bankruptcy cases. Oliver also handles state court litigation, particularly those involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, or the fraudulent transfer of assets to evade a judgment.
